Anne Couch

Anne Park Couch, beloved wife, mother and teacher, died in a motor vehicle accident on September 19, 2009 in Meriwether County, Georgia. She was born on October 1, 1951 in Miami, Florida, where she lived for 8 years until moving to Atlanta, Georgia. She attended Dykes High School and from there attended Florida State University. Mrs. Couch later earned her Masters and Education Specialist Degrees from Valdosta State University.
She was married April 14, 1973 to Jack Couch, and they lived in Camilla, Georgia, Atlanta, Georgia, St. Augustine, Florida and Jacksonville, Florida before settling in Waycross in 1977. She was a revered high school math teacher for 28 years. Mrs. Couch won the 2004 Catherine Foss Educator of the Year Award presented by the Waycross-Ware County Chamber of Commerce, and received the State Superintendent's Distinguished Achievement Award in 2008 for improvement in Algebra scores. She spent one year at Clinch County High School, ten years at Brantley County High School, one year at Waycross High School and 15 years at Ware County High School. She moved to Greenville, Georgia two months before her death, and taught at Manchester High School. Throughout her entire adult life Mrs. Couch served in youth ministry as a volunteer counselor. She was an active participant and supporter of numerous mission projects.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Couch of Greenville, Georgia, three sons, Joshua Couch and his wife Kate of Los Angeles, California, Jason Couch and his wife Candace of Norcross, Georgia, Justin Couch of Washington DC, two granddaughters Karis Couch, Emily Couch, both of Los Angeles, California, her sister, Susan Broward Garret of Atlanta, Georgia, a nephew, Doug Kays, and two nieces Betsy Bottomley, and Catherine Plant, all of Atlanta, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Eddie Park, formerly of Waycross.

A funeral service will be held 4 p.m., Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be sent to the American Red Cross, "Blood Donors Committee", 621 Tebeau Street, Waycross, Georgia 31501.
