She married Edward Kurtz on Aug. 19,1940. He preceded her in death on Feb. 26,1992.
Ed and Hazel owned and operated The Bargain Center, which was located on Moravia Street for 28 years. Prior to owning the store, she had worked at the A and P Supermarket, Johnson Bronze and the main office of Associated Box. She was a member of Mount Jackson Presbyterian Church and the Alliance of Transylvania Saxons.
Survived by one son, Vern E. Kurtz Sr. and his wife, Mary Jane; two grandchildren, Vern E. Kurtz Jr. and wife, Rudi Lyn, and Michelle Lynn Kurtz; and two great-grandchildren, Michael E. Kurtz and Joshua S. Kurtz. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jacqueline; three sisters, Mae Adams, Bernice Inman and Nancy Gettings; and one brother, Paul Schrecongost.
Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road.A service will be conducted Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
