British Physician, Lexicographer. The creator of the "Thesaurus" - the first and only "dictionary of ideas", now seen as a collection of synonyms, but originally conceived as a way of improving the clarity of expression in writing. Roget was also an eminent physician, and Secretary of the Royal Society. He also described the phenomenon of "persistence of vision" which established the theoretical basis of the movie camera.
