WELLS, JACK W., 63, of Louisville, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2006, at University Hospital. He was a retired officer for the Louisville Metro Police Department, a member of the Sons of American Legion Highland Post #20, a member of the F.O.P. Lodge #6 , a member of the Kentucky Native American Indian Council Inc. and a member of the National Police Officers Association. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda S. Wells. He is survived by two daughters, Karen Wells Gibson and Michelle Green; six grandchildren, Tyler K. and Shaina M. Schroerlucke, Trista E. and Amber R. Bodenstadt, Mason T. and Connor R. Keeling; and a host of friends. Funeral Services will be held at noon Monday at the O.D. White & Sons Funeral Home, 2727 S. Third St., with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Sunday.

Jack worked from January 14, 1974 until December 16, 1981 with the Louisville Division of Police. In 1981, he was shot in the chest point blank with a .44 caliber pistol while on duty. The coward who shot him recognized Jack as a plaincloths police detective while inside of a business crowded with people. Jack survived this ordeal but suffered through a long torturous recovery. Unfortunately, he was forced to retire on disability due to his injuries which caused him pain for the rest of his life. He was an entrepreneur owning and operating various businesses in the Louisville area.
