Ray DuChene Free, Major General USAR, Ret. 92, passed away August 9, 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born January 4,1910 in Weston, ID to J. Roy and Jennie DuChene Free. Served LDS mission in Germany. Married Louise Wilcken June 26, 1935 in the Salt Lake Temple. Upon graduation from Univ. of Utah Ray was commissioned in US Army and served five years during WW II in the Pacific Theater, receiving the Purple Heart. He continued service in the Reserves retiring as Maj General. Ray owned and operated Hygeia Ice Company. He served in the Utah House of Representatives. Survived by wife, Louise; sons David R. (Jeanie), Charles W. (Linda), Richard W. (Vickie), Stephen J. (Maureen); daughter Madeline L.; 23 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by two brothers Byron and James; parents; son, Jarlod Ray Free and grandson, Thomas Free.
