Matilda came from a prominent Ohio family. Her husband was also born in Ohio. Matilda was the daughter of Richard and Susan (McNeal) Belt, and her father was born in Maryland, and her mother was born in Ohio. Tilda's mother died in Clermont County Ohio in 1844, when she was only 3.
She married T.L.H. Holman on February 26th, 1863 in Ohio, and they came directly to Illinois and resided on a farm in LaSalle County. In 1871, they moved to Saunemin Township in Livingston County.
She and Thomas were prominent, wealthy farmers and stock-raisers in Livingston County, Illinois, farming 205 acres. They were not blessed with children.
Their grave monument is among the largest in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, standing over 6 feet tall.
Thomas and Matilda were my Mom's great great uncle and aunt. My gg grandmother Evaline Holman Perrine, and Thomas Holman were sister and brother.
