On 17 June 1886, he married Cordelia Gibson, believed to be the daughter of James Gibson and Mary Hobbs. To this union 6 children were born, three of whom died at a very young age. The last two children, twin boys, and wife Cordelia died shortly after childbirth in 1900 of the measles. Cordelia was buried with a twin in each arm in a private family cemetery in Jackson County, WV.
George went on to marry Druza Angeline Ledsome in 1902, with whom he had three more children: Georgia Augusta, Thomas Orville, and Nellie Frances McCoy.
