Carl G. Kirsten, Pioneer Here, Dies
Carl Godfrey Kirsten, who had resided in Santa Barbara since July 7, 1871, coming direct from Germany, died yesterday at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Kirsten, 2825 Sereno [Serena] Rd. Mr. Kirsten, who lived at 324 W. Arrellaga St., had been with his son for the past few months while ill.
Born April 9, 1863, in Leipzig, Germany, Mr. Kirsten was educated in the local schools and work for the City Water Department in an early day. Later he engaged in farming.
Surviving are his son, a daughter, Mrs. Helen A. Crotcher [Crother], and a brother, Ernest Kirsten, all of Santa Barbara; a sister, Mrs. Anna Hansen of Los Angeles; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death 12 years ago.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 pm Tuesday in the chapel of the Haider Mortuary. Interment will be in the family plot in the Santa Barbara Cemetery.
