Malcolm A. Ballard, a retired major from the Baton Rouge Police Department, was called home by his Heavenly Father on Monday, July 18, 2005, at the age of 80. Malcolm was born in Walker and was reared in the Zachary area. He was of the Baptist faith. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of Central Lodge 442, Free and Accepted Masons, and a 33rd Degree IGH Scottish Rite Mason, belonging to the Baton Rouge Consistory. Right Worshipful Malcolm Ballard served the Grand Lodge of the State of Louisiana, Free and Accepted Masons, for 30 years as grand photographer.

Malcolm was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alva B. Ballard; and a sister, Annette Ballard Kennedy.

He is survived by his only daughter, Scharlene Ballard, Zachary; niece, Sheila Kennedy Lee; and nephew, Michael Lee.

Visiting will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Friday, July 22, from 5 p.m. until Masonic service at 7 p.m. Visiting continues in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, July 23, from 9 a.m. until funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Interment in Palmetto Cemetery, Walker.

Pallbearers will be Masonic Brethren Lester Dale Jenkins, Charles Perry Tidwell IV, Talmadge Bunch, C. Warren Beard, Donald K. Bourque, John Corkern, Dorian Heroman and James Duncan. Honorary pallbearers are past grand masters of the Grand Lodge of the State of Louisiana, Free and Accepted Masons.

Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association, Grace Baptist Church, Zachary, or the Masonic Trustees for Masonic Properties and Charities.
