Charles was the son of Walter Lee and Estelle Irene Pate Barnett. His parents are buried in Parker Cemetery in Flo. He was a graduate of Ferris High School and of East Texas State University. He was residing in Ferris, TX at the time of his death in Stephenville, TX 16 November 1997. He was survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Trail Barnett of Ferris; daughters, Susan Belsher of Houston and Brenda K. Hicks of Palestine; one son, Michael Smith of Read Oak; one sister, Wanda Lampier of Lancaster; and six grandchildren. His obituary was published in the Palestine Herald-Press.
