Amasa Kingsley Read was born in Baton Rouge Nov. 30, 1984.
His father, Alvan E. Read, for a short time before his death, was superintendent of the Louisiana Institute for the Blind.
He entered the freshman class In 1898 as a town student, and has never been connected with the military department.
He became a member of Phi Chapter of the Sigma Nu fraternity In '99 and was associate editor of Sterna Nu Catalogue.
He served as associate editor of "Gumbo."
He took the full literary course, graduating with the degree of Bachelor of Arts.

Oxford, Eng., March 19,--A memorial service in honor of the late A. K. Read of Louisiana, a Rhodes scholar of Christ church, Oxford, who died March 15, of meningitis, was held in Oxford cathedral Friday, and was well attended by Americans and others. Professor Louis Dyer represented the American embassy. The body was shipped home.

Brought to Louisiana.
Oxford, England. March 16. -- A memorial service in honor of the late A. K. Read of Louisiana, a Rhodes scholar of Christ Church, Oxford, who died March 13, of meningitis, was held in Oxford Cathedral today and was well attended by Americans and others. Prof. Louis Diyer represented the American embassy.
The body was escorted to the railway station from whence it will be shipped to Louisiana.
