Eugene Brooks, 95, of Waynesville was born in Haywood County on March 27, 1914, to the late Phillip Asbury and Nora Smathers Brooks. He was a self-employed orchardman and proprietor of a general store.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Elmar, Roy, Ernest, Edwin & Robert Brooks and three sisters, Ila Brooks Farmer, Grace Brooks Hendricks and Florence Brooks Coward.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Arrington Brooks; three daughters, Carolyn Cagle and her husband, J.C. of Sylva, Linda Smathers and her husband, Dale of Waynesville, and Sharon Brooks Massie of Waynesville; six grandchildren, Brian Cagle, Brook Roberts, Cristy Patten, and Joseph, Patrick and Jonathan Massie; six Great Grandchildren, Lydia and Like Cagle, Lucie and Benjamin Patten, Isabella Roberts and Tucker Brooks Massie.
