Bernard Ottway Burton, age 88, of 838 Westmont Dr., Asheboro, died Monday, August 23, 2004, in Randolph Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 26, 2004 at First United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Michael Holder and Rev. George Roberson. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery with Masonic rites. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the Junior Wesley Hall at the church.

Mr. Burton was a native of Pittsylvania County, VA and served 3 years in the U.S. Army. He was an attorney in Asheboro for over 60 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #699, a Shriner, and a member of the Elks Club. Mr. Burton was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he formerly served on the Board of Trustees and taught College Career Sunday School class for 20 years. He was active in the Boy Scouts.

Survivors are wife Ruby Brown Burton; daughters, Amanda Burton McCartney of Bethesda, MD and Molly Harrison Burton of Atlanta, GA; son, Benjamin Burton of Farmville, NC; sister, Katie Carpenter of Falls Church, VA; brother, Edward K. Burton of Lexington, KY.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 224 North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro, NC 27203.
