From Mary Elizabeth Violet's delayed birth certificate, dated Aug 1, 1953:
---Violet's parents were- father Golden Rule born in Ohio (incorrect-see actual birth state below) and mother- Elizabeth Jane Curd born in Augusta Co., Virginia. (According to Virginia Select Marriages- Violet's mother Elizabeth J. Curd was born 1881 in Augusta Co., VA).

---Golden Rule and Elizabeth Jane Curd were married June 24, 1902 in Fishersville, Virgina.

---Violet's birth certificate was 'delayed'. Violet's birth was proven by a family bible entry made close to the time of her birth. The bible was presented to the Virginia Dept. of Health-Bureau of Vital Statistics in Richmond, VA by her Aunt Josephine Curd McCune of Fishersville, (who was Violet's mother Elizabeth Jane Curd-Rule's sister).

Golden Rule was actually born May 8, 1880 in Moatsville, Barbour Co, West Virginia, father-Watson W. Rule.
Golden's mother was Elizabeth "Betty" F. Brooks according to his birth and his death records. The family bible and delayed birth certificate for Violet was incorrect when listing him as born in Ohio. Every other record has him as born in Barbour County, West Virginia- Draft registration, 2nd marriage records, four census etc.)

from Virginia Select Marriages-
---Parents of Violet's mother Elizabeth J. Curd (married name Rule) were A.H. Curd and Mattie M. Patterson (Albert H. Curd & Mary Martha Patterson, her Memorial# 96313262) (Violet's maternal grandparents).
---Parents of Violet's father Golden Rule were W.W. Rule and Bettie F. Brooks (Violet's paternal grandparents)

1880- Golden Rule age 1 month, born in West Virginia, was in the 1880 census in Cove, Barbour Co., WV, living with his parents Watson W. Rule and Elizabeth (Bettie) Rule, as well as Golden's Rule siblings John C. age 9; Cary B. age 7; Rando age 4; and Martha J. 2.
1900- Golden Rule, age 20, born May 1880, born in WV, was living with his father Watson W. Rule age 60 and mother Bettie F. Rule age 55.
1910- Violet, her mother Elizabeth age 32, born in VA and father Golden age 28, born in WV, her sister India age 4, born Washington DC and her mother's brother J. Albert Curd age 17 (15 years younger than Elizabeth Jane) were all together in the 1910 census in Washington, DC.
Sept 12, 1918- Golden's WWI Draft Registration- Golden Rule was born May 8, 1880, his permanent address was on Adams Mill Rd in Washington DC, but he was employed on that date by Miller Saw trimmer Co. in Pittsburgh, PA.
His nearest relative was (his wife) Mrs. E.C. Rule (Elizabeth Jane Curd-Rule), but her address is different from Golden's permanent address, so it appears they were still married but had already been living separately in Washington DC.

It appears Golden Rule and Elizabeth Jane Curd-Rule parted ways sometime after the 1910 census and before his Sept 1918 Draft Registration.
Golden remained in Pennsylvania and Elizabeth Jane and daughters Violet & India stayed in Washington DC.
1920- Violet her sister India and her mother Elizabeth Jane were in the 1920 census in Washington DC, but without Golden Rule. Violet & India's mother Elizabeth was listed as married, although Golden was not living with them for the census.

1920- Violet's father Golden, 39, born in WV, was in a different Washington DC 1920 census, also listed as married but also not living with his children or wife (Elizabeth J. Curd-Rule). In that census, Golden was living in with his widowed mother Bettie (Elizabeth F. Brooks-Rule) and his widowed sister Mattie Rule-Allen and her 3 Allen sons and a daughter.
1922- Violet's mother Elizabeth C. (Elizabeth Jane Curd-Rule) was listed as (Golden's) 'widow' in the Washington DC City Directory for that year.

(But Golden hadn't died- just moved on... and sometime after Sept 1918, he married his 2nd wife Della. It's unknown as to whether Elizabeth Jane and Golden actually got a divorce or not).
Nov 23, 1923- Violet married Louis Alvina Gravelle, in Washington, DC.

1928 son Louis Alvin Gravelle Jr. was born.
1935- Golden and 2nd wife Della Goff-Rule were living in San Francisco, CA (from the 1940 census).
1940- Golden and Della were in the 1940 census, living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
1940- Elizabeth Jane Curd-Rule was still listed as a widow in the 1940 census in Washington DC. Her daughters were gone and it appears she was the proprietor of a rooming house with lodgers.
Apr 27, 1942- Golden's WWII Draft Registration- Golden was born in Motesville (Moatsville), WV May 8, 1880. He was living and working in Philadelphia.
His 'always can contact' person was (his 2nd wife) Mrs. Della (Goff) Rule-living at the same address as Golden.

Dec 6, 1948, Violet & India's father Golden Rule died in Philadelphia.
Mar 3. 1962, Violet & India's mother Elizabeth Jane Curd Rule died in Washington DC.
