PFC Tarkington was killed in action in Vietnam in October 1965. A graduate of Scottsdale High School class of 1964, Curtis Tarkington enlisted in the Army not long after graduating. Tarkington was a part of the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry as part of the 173rd Airborne Brigade and was awarded the Purple Heart.
