Doris was born on June 26, 1909, in Childress, to the late John Robert and Sallie Virginia (Mallett) Sullivan. She married Joe B. Pate, Sr., on January 21, 1927, in Lubbock. He preceded her in death on October 6, 2000, after 73 years of marriage.
Throughout life, Doris was involved in several volunteer activities. For the community of Lubbock, she was the coordinator for the Five-Day Stop Smoking Program. She also sang with the Sweet Adeline group, and in 1995, she was a delegate to the International Conference Session for the Adventist Church.
Those left to cherish her memories are three children, Joe B. Pate, Jr., Doris Dephena Bresee and husband Floyd, and Oleta Faye Pate; sister, Nita Gibson; sister-in-law, Aileen Head; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
