Joseph R. Becker was born in Wayne Twp, December 2, 1867, and died in Elkhart Twp October 31, 1909, aged 41 years, 10 months and 29 days. He was the son of the late John Peter Becker of Elkhart Twp and the earlier part of his life was spent in the common schools where he obtained a good practical education. He determined to follow farming as a vacation and in this he was successful in no small degree. He married Naomi Huff October 27, 1894, and they had two sons. He is survived by a wife; two sons, Joseph Ray 14, Howard C. 10; four brothers, William F. of Jefferson Twp, Fred E. of Polo, Ill., Henry of York Twp; one sister, Mrs. Rollin Black of York Twp; one stepmother. Obsequies were held at the late residence last Tuesday. Burial, Wright's Cemetery. * 10-?-1909 He committed suicide Sunday by jumping from Duke's bridge into the Elkhart River. About 2 years ago he submitted to an operation in one of the Fort Wayne hospitals and has been in poor health since. obit courtesy of Ronald Becker
