Norbert Schneider, 59, school teacher in Stearns county for 40 years, well known St. Joseph public official, died suddenly this morning [7 January 1938] at University hospital in Minneaplis after an illness of about a year. Mr. Schneider had gone to the hospital a week ago for treatment. Early this morning he dropped dead.
Mr. Schneider was born in Germany and came to this country when he was nine years of age. His family settled on a farm at Holdingford. For 40 years Mr. Schneider taught in the schools of the county, settling at St. Joseph about 20 years [ago] and teaching since that time in the public school.
Mr. Schneider was interested in local government and carried the load of village clerk for 13 years, assessor for 11 years, and justice of the peace for 10 years.
The widow [Magdalena Meyer Schneider] and 10 children remain. The children are Clarence, St. Cloud; Edward in the U.S. navy in the Hawaiian islands; Della, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Herman, Fort Snelling [Minneapolis, Minn.]; Rosetta, Minneapolis; Marcellus, Herbert, Mrs. William [Cyrilla] Merkling, Albert, and Hilaria, St. Joseph. There are three grandchildren and two brothers, and three sisters, who are William, Albany; Henry, Mrs. William [Mary] Beckman and Mrs. George [Regina] Paggen, Holdingford; and Mrs. Peter [Anna] Paggen, Minneapolis.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic church on Monday and interment will be made there in the cemetery.
