She was born July 22, 1925, in Holly Springs to Marshall Lafever and Lucy Jones. She was a homemaker and a member of Slayden Baptist Church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holly Springs Funeral Home with Bro. Don Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Holly Springs.
Survivors include two sons, Cary Carpenter of Nashville, Tenn., and retired Col. Paul Carpenter of West Point; three daughters, Esther (Ecky) Leak of Lamar, Lisa Cox of Senatobia and Leigh Skelton of Ashland; 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Irby Watkins Carpenter; her parents; and two sons, Gary Carpenter and Irby Wayne Carpenter.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Slayden Baptist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
