Revolutionary War veteran

Biography info from Frank Best's "Amidon Family":

"At the Lexington Alarm he marched as Sergeant in Capt. John Albree's company to Roxbury, April 19, 1775. On July 9, 1776, he was chosen First Lieutenant in Capt. Samuel Cragin's company in the Third Worcester county regiment and was on an expidition to Rhode Island in December, 1776, and January, 1777. From August 14, 1777 to November 29, 1777, was First Lieutenant in Capt. Peter Penniman's company, Col. Job Cushing's regiment. August 27, 1779, was commissioned Captain of the first company on Col. Nathan Tyler's (3rd Worcester County) regiment and held that rank until March, 1781."

In 1787 he was commissioned Lieutenant-Colonel of the 3rd Regiment of Worcester County militia.

Ammidon served in various offices in Mendon from 1780-1798 including school committee member, treasurer, selectman and town clerk. He was recorded as running a tavern in 1789. Finally he was elected to 3 years in the Massachusetts House of Representatives 1798-1800.
