She was born in Lake Charles and resided in Ragley. She was a member of Moss Bluff Pentecostal Church and a graduate of Sam Houston High School. She was involved in the Ulster Project, hosting children in her home from Ireland. She worked for Jeff Davis Bank as a Loan Assistant, was the owner of Curves in Moss Bluff, and was a licensed Notary in the state of Louisiana. She was an accomplished seamstress, loved gardening, yard work, music, and playing the violin. She was a vibrant, devoted, and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was always trying to help others. She battled cancer with a positive attitude, never complaining about her illness.
Survivors include her husband, Don Alan Richard of Ragley, LA; sons, Matthew Alan Richard and wife, Stephanie, of Ragley, LA, Cody Alan Richard of Moss Bluff, LA, Dustin Cole Richard, and wife, Tonya, of Moss Bluff, LA; father, Verbia Long of DeRidder, LA; brother, Eugene Long , and wife, Mary Ann, of Moss Bluff, LA; sister, Pamela Ann Long Barrow and husband, Bill, of Rowlett, TX; 3 granddaughters, Mattison Maxine Richard of Ragley, LA, Mallory Marie Richard of Ragley, LA, Drew Marie Richard of Moss Bluff, LA; 3 grandsons, Trey Rylan Comeaux of Moss Bluff, Luke Vernon Richard of Ragley and Jackson Cole Richard of Moss Bluff, LA. She was preceded in death by her mother, Maxine Pierce Long.
Her funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Moss Bluff Pentecostal Church. Rev. Tim Mahoney will officiate. Burial will be in Hyatt Cemetery in Fields, LA under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be at the church from 3-9 p.m. Tuesday and again, on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.
