SARAH BEATTY was the daughter of JAMES BEATTY and ROSA M. RODGERS and she was born in Montgomery County, Kentucky on 11 March 1826. Her father had come to Kentucky from Virginia after serving in the Revolutionary War and, after marrying ROSA RODGERS in 1814, settled in Montgomery County where many of their children were born. In the late 1840's he moved the family to Hancock County. That is where SARAH BEATTY met her future husband, ALEXANDER MARSHALL GILMOUR, and they were married there on 11 April 1850.

SARAH and ALEXANDER MARSHALL GILMOUR settled in Hancock County and then moved to nearby Warren County, Illinois and became the parents of seven children, three of which were born in Illinois. In 1856, they moved to Missouri and settled in Benton Township near Kirksville in Adair County and remained there until they passed away. ALEXANDER MARSHALL GILMOUR died in 1898 and SARAH died on 1 December 1900. They are both buried in the Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville.
