Edna Elizabeth Cole was born in St. Clair County, Missouri, March 7, 1860, and died at her home northwest of Medicine Lodge, Kansas, at 1:00 am November 2, 1922, age 62 years 7 months and 26 days.

She was united in marriage May 8, 1877, to Henry Lee Strickland, who preceded her in death February 28, 1922. In 1878 they moved to Anderson County, Kansas, and during the following year they came to Barber County which remained her home until the day of her death.

Spiritually she was born into the Kingdom of God, when she accepted Christ for her savior, eight years ago; and she has lived a true Christian life ever since that day. She was a faithful wife and a devoted mother. As a mother she gave the world 16 children three of whom preceded her in death in 1887. The thirteen living children who mourn her death are: Levi, Bert, Earl, Fred, Thomas, Troy, and Carrie Strickland, Mrs. Louie Nurse, Mrs. Josephine Clark, all of Medicine Lodge. Frank Strickland of Sharon, and Mrs. Cuba Shriver of Lake City, Mrs. Nellie Wickersham of Wendall, Iowa, and William Tell Strickland of Jerome, Idaho. There are 38 grand children and one great-grandchild living. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ruth Kelley of Vista, Missouri.

The funeral service was in charge of Rev. S. A. Whysong, pastor of the Presbyterian Church who preached the funeral from the text, "Behold thy Mother" John 19:27. The service was held in the Christian Church, whose pastor Rev. Barley assisted, on November 3. Then the body was laid to rest in the Medicine Lodge Highland Cemetery. -- Barber County Index, November 9, 1922.
