Bety B. DeChenne, 88, of Spokane passed away Sept. 10 at her home following a long illness, with family at her bedside.

DeChenne was born Nov. 13, 1920, in Spokane, to Lon and Bonnie Grover. She spent her childhood in the Medical Lake area and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1938. She married Lewis DeChenne in 1938. She moved to the Cusick area in 1944 where she was active in the Saddle Club and Grange activities. She worked at the local mink farm as well as working as a bartender. She moved to Spokane in 1958 where she attended Kinman Business School and was employed as a secretary in September of 1959 for Waddell & Reed. She worked for them 10 years and then worked for Inter-Pacific Investors as a secretary, then office manager until her retirement in 1988. Throughout the years she has always been very devoted and active with her family.

DeChenne was preceded in death by her parents Lon and Bonnie Grover, her sister Gini McDonnell and her son George DeChenne.

DeChenne is survived by her daughter Deanna Groce of Sandpoint; two grandchildren Suzan Turner of Spokane and Scott Groce of Medical Lake; three great-grandchildren Christi Barker, Brad Groce and Ben Groce and three great-great-grandchildren Brenden, Bryson and Samantha Barker, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Spokane.

No services will be held at her request. A wake will be held to celebrate her life at the Priest River Yacht Club, 310 Railroad Ave., Priest River at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18.
