1Lt Crane was Killed in Action during the Korean War. Crane was a pilot of an AT-6D Mosquito observation aircraft. He was assigned to the 6148th Tactical Air Control Squadron, 614th Tactical Air Control Group. During an Air to Ground mission Crane's aircraft was struck by ground fire and crashed. There were no reports of a parachute, no documentation that he had been captured, no reports by any of the released POWs that he had been captured and based upon North Korean claims...his remains were recovered in the area where his aircraft had crashed. Therefore, the best estimation is that Crane either died on or in the proximity of September 13, 1953. On December 31, 1953, Crane’s Missing in Action status was officially updated as presumed to have been killed body not recovered. On May 29, 1990, Crane's remains were recovered. On October 10, 2005, his remains were identified. Veteran Affairs records list Crane as being buried in California at the Santa Rosa Memorial Park Cemetery.
