Maxine Lewis Beauchamp, a long time resident of Des Moines, IA and Highland Park since the 1940's passed away September 8 in Denver, Colorado.

Daughter of Elisha Lewis and Minnie Starns of Hamburg, IA, Maxine was born November 9, 1921 in Westboro, MO. Maxine attended rural country schools and Coin High School in Page County, IA.

Maxine was married to Glenn Beauchamp in St. Joseph, MO on October 19, 1941. During World War II she lived with her sister Alice Lewis Rogers in Kansas City and worked at a manufacturing plant.

Glenn and Maxine moved to Highland Park in 1943 and became life-long members of the Highland Presbyterian Church in March 1959.

Maxine supported her husband in business throughout central Iowa and enjoyed the Iowa State Fair. She was an avid flower and vegetable gardner and loved cooking and canning. She also loved her role as supporting spouse, homemaker and caregiver.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn who passed away on July 1, 2009; brother Bill; and sisters, Bertha, Myrtle, and Virginia.

Maxine is survived by one son, Jerry Beauchamp, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; one granddaughter, Shey O'Connor; and two great-grandsons. She is also survived by her brother Dale Lewisof Kellog, ID; and sisters, Alice Rogers, Culver, IN, Loretta Hemmett, Astoria, OR, Loretta Therrian, Granbury, TX, and Rosanna Miller, Columbia City, IN.

While hanging outdoor Christmas decorations in December 2008 and jouously celebrating her faith Maxine fell, followed by brain surgery and a nine-month recovery effort. Maxine would have turned 88 in November.

Always friendly and jovial, and always willing to help others in need, Maxine was well liked, as evidenced by her many life-long friends located throughout the United States; to the nursing and administrative staff who were saddened at Maxine's passing.

A versatile, dynamic, hard working, loving wife, mother, friend and Christian volunteer.
