When the Rev. Jim Koons died on Aug. 6, members of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and people in the community waited anxiously to see what would happen to the parish's unique outreach ministries.
Koons, the church's beloved pastor, had reached out to people with HIV and AIDS with healing services and a support group. He and his staff also helped launch programs to provide the city's needy with medical care and household goods.
