Benjamin FRANK Chambers was named after two individuals: 1) Dr. Benjamin Briscoe who attended his birth and 2) his father's brother, Frank Chambers (not Franklin). Stationed at Clark Field in the Philippines, my Uncle Ben was the pilot of a B25 that was damaged by a bomb that exploded prematurely during a bombing raid on the Japanese shipping lanes. The bomb fragments severed the oil lines to the engines. There was no choice but to set the plane down on the sea which was very choppy that day. Two of the crewmen James Lane (TN) and Bauduy Grier (DE) were able to exit the plane. Only one made it to the life raft. He was picked up by a submarine twenty-one days later. Grier, the lone survivor.
