Born April 27, 1932, in Gordonsville, he was a son of the late William David Butler and Lottie Trainhum Graves. He was the husband of the late Melissa Pierson Butler.
Mr. Butler served in the United States Navy and was a Korean War veteran. He was a member of the Gordonsville Veteran of Foreign Wars post 7638 and American Legion post 1999.
He is survived by two daughters, Melissa Butler of Louisa, and Cynthia B. Regner and her husband, Mark, of Cincinnati, Ohio; one son, William David Butler and his wife, Alexandria, of Louisa; one brother, Richard Butler of Gordonsville; two sisters, Emma Hermanson of Louisa, and Hazel Black Novasio of Catonsville, Maryland; five grandchildren, David J. Butler, Grace M. Butler, Christopher B. Butler, Jonathan B. Regner, and Jeremy P. Regner; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, William "Buck" Butler, Randolph Butler, and Earl Butler; three sisters, Lottie Berg, Louise Miller, and Dorothy Watford .
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville with interment to follow at Maplewood Cemetery. Pastor Carmon Hartsfield will officiate.
