He was a self-employed electronic specialist. He entered the Marines in 1940 and was medically discharged in 1945. He was a member of Elmdale Baptist Church, member of the DAV and member of the American Legion. He was a Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal and Midway survivor. He was a recipient of two Purple Hearts and several other medals. He served in the South Pacific for approximately four years and was wounded at the Battle of Villa la Villa, and was a spokesperson for U.S. Savings Bonds.
He is survived by his wife Edna of the home, two daughters, Barbara Clark and husband Jim of Canyon, Texas, and Kathy Bailey and husband Jerry of Brentwood, Arkansas. One brother, Gerald Swanson of Winlock, Washington. Also three grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday, September 21, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Fayetteville National Cemetery. Pastor Tom Shaw will officiate.
No visitation is scheduled.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Rd., Springdale, AR 72762.
