James Wilson Crain,
Travelers Rest

James Wilson Crain, 90, of 60 Blue Ridge Way, died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999.

Born in Greenville County, he was predeceased by his parents, Dr. J. Dean and Ellen Wilson Crain, a sister, Mary Ellen Covington and a brother, Dr. J.N. Holtzclaw. He graduated as President of the 1933 class of Furman University. During World War II, he served as a Lieutenant in the Navy. In 1981, he received the Order of the Palmetto by Gov. Richard Riley. He was a member of The Recovery Lodge #31 and American Legion Post #3 and the U.T.C. Before retiring, he was employed as a Federal Probation Officer and served as Commissioner of the South Carolina Tax Commission.

Survivors: wife of 66 years, Caroline Inman Crain; daughter, Caroline Margaret Crain of Travelers Rest; son, John Dean Crain II of Greenville; granddaughter, Mrs. Molly C. Achille of Greenville; grandson, John Dean Crain III of Mount Pleasant; great-grandsons, Allston and Chase Achille of Greenville.

Service: 2 p.m. Monday at Enoree Baptist Church, Travelers Rest. Entombment: C.M. Gaffney Memorial Mausoleum of Woodlawn Memorial Park.
