Mr.Kalis passed away peacefully on Sept. 16, while his loving wife of 49 years, Helen, and their children were by his side. Born to George and Evdoxia Kalis in Piraeus, Greece, he was a Merchant Marine serving his country when he met the love of his life on a cruise ship when he was returning from Greece in 1959, they were married in 1960 in Boston. He was a devoted and loving Husband, Father, Papou (grandfather) and Friend to many.

A Fairfield resident since 1964, he worked for Chef's Orchid Catering and later owned and operated Star Airline Catering, Kalis Foods, and Mr. K's Milk Farm in Dixon. Russel was an icon in the Airline Catering industry until semi-retiring in 2005.

He was an active member of the Sacramento Ahepa Lodge, Zeus Cretaneges, and the Chefalonians he was a long time member of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, and The Fairfield Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed helping in various youth organizations (sports) and his kids and grandkids schools to this date.

He is survived by his Wife Helen, his five children and their (spouses): George (Bron) Kalis, Evdoxia (Edward) Bettencourt both of Fairfield, Maria (Rodney) Buchanan of Johnson City, Tenn.; Charles (Helga) Kalis of Norco, Calif.; and Anastasia (Timothy) Miner of Fairfield, his 18 grandchildren: Evangelia and Alexandria Kalis, Brandon, Nikolaus, Mekhali, Eleni and Rouseta Bettencourt and Marley Kalis, Ginger, Joan and Margaret Buchanan, Daniella, Charles Jr., Enrique and Cassandra Kalis, Alexander and Katrina Kalis, and Russel Miner. His brothers and their (spouses): Andy (Maro) Kalis of Fairfield; John (Margarita) Kalis of Athens, Greece; Tassos (Angelina) Kalis of Astypalea, Greece; and brother-in-law Arthur Morfidis. He is preceded in death by his sister, Helen Morfidis. Russel also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many dear and close friends from around the world.
