Lavernard "Ray" Brown Sr., 80, passed away September 11, 2009, at Toledo Hospital.
Born in Marianna, Arkansas he was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict.
He retired from General Motors Hydromatic Toledo, Plant after 31 years of service.
He served his God as a faithful member of Church of the New Covenant Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and usher.
He enjoyed many things in his life by pursuing gardening, fishing and was an avid bowler with the Young Seniors League.
He was also a member of Arkansas Heritage club, Toledo Chapter.
He was a devoted husband to his wife, Margaret and father to his four children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson and Ella T. Brown; grandchild, Jelani Shockley; two brothers, James and McKinley Brown and sister, Wilhelmina Butler.
He leaves to cherish his memory wife of fifty-three years, Margaret J. Brown; son, Lavernard (Dyaniese) Brown Jr.; three daughters, Joyce Shockley, Pamela (Keith) Shaw, Cynthia Brown all of Columbus, OH; twelve grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; two brothers, Rev. Spencer (Vivian) Brown of Marianna, AR, Lee C. (Lula) Brown of Toledo, OH; three sisters, Carrie Board of Detroit, MI, Olivia (Clifton) James, of West Covina, CA, Elizabeth (Alonzo) Griffin of Philadelphia, PA; brother-in-law, Richard Coppage Jr.; three sisters-in-law, Lula Singleton, Mattie Parker, Dorothy Mitchell all of Detroit, MI and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be Thursday 4-6 p.m. followed by wake services 6-8 p.m. Dale-Riggs Funeral Home Chapel. Family hour Friday 11 a.m. followed by funeral services 12 noon, Church of the New Covenant Baptist, Rev. Benjamin Green, officiant. Interment Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
