On December 4, 1946, she married Harley Edward Almond and they bought a farm in Sullivan County. To this union four children were born, Vena Marie (Donald) Long of Columbia, Missouri, Dorothy Faye Sterrett of St. Charles, Missouri, Harry Don (Paula) Almond of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Peggy Rae (Gary) Summers of Hannibal, Missouri. In 1967 they moved to Hannibal, Missouri. They were lifelong members of the Church of Christ.
Peggy was a gifted mother, homemaker, cook, and seamstress. Her quilts remain as her legacy. Her pies and candies and especially her noodles are greatly missed. She loved to garden and could not walk past a weed without stopping to pull it. She was a member since 1995 of Missouri P.E.O. Chapter KV, in Hannibal, Missouri. She retired from the Hannibal Public Schools after many years of helping children check out wonderful books from the school library. She stressed education and all of her children are college graduates. She was beloved Granny to 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grand-children. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sisters, Shirley and Nancy.
A visitation was held Tuesday, April 22, 2014, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan, Missouri. Funeral Services were held Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at 11:00 AM at the Church of Christ in Hannibal, Missouri. Officiating was Michael Long and Nathan Almond. A graveside service followed at White Oak Cemetery south of Milan. Memorials in her memory are suggested to the White Oak Cemetery."
