Peter Wyckoff Vanderbelt was born in Hunterdon County New Jersey Oct 3, 1786. When he was an infant 1 years old his father & mother migrated to York County Pennsylvania & settled in what is now Adams County. They lived there 5 years when his father heard of the fine country of the West Branch decided to remove there & settle permanently. They settled along Lycoming Creek now embraced by the farm of Dr. Lyon. They lived there for 6 years & then located in the city of Williamsport on the 8th of October 1798. Peter was 12 years of age & there were only 7 dwellings erected there.
Peter Vanderbelt Jr was twice married. His first wife was Elizabeth Ross daughter of Michael Ross. Of her children only the following survive: Mrs. Mary W Packer, Mrs. Eleanor V. Bennett & Mrs. Elizabeth Meyers.
His second wife was Elizabeth Grafius who died 7/28/1860. Mr. Vanderbelt died 10/3/1871 on his birhday & is buried in the Washington Street Cemetery.
