Husband of Anna Catharina (Hartbecke) Franzen (1806-1853). Father of four. Later married to Gesina (Koebbemann) Franzen on Nov. 9, 1854 in DuPage County, Illinois. He was the son of Hermann Bernhard Heinrich Franzen and Anna Catharina Gertrud (Uphaus) Franzen.

Please note: Johan was among some of the earliest burials in St. Johannes Cemetery, Bensenville, DuPage County, Illinois. The cemetery is now defunct as the cemetery was taken over in order to build a airport runway and the burials were all relocated to different cemeteries (mostly around the area). Johann is most likely among the group of relocated burials that were listed as "Unknown Adult." Most of the unknown burials were reinterred in Mount Emblem Cemetery and Eden Memorial Park in Schiller Park, Cook County, Illinois.

Twelve other Franzen family members who were initially buried in St. Johannes Cemetery were moved to Mount Emblem Cemetery between 2010 and 2012. While there may be no way at this point of identifying which cemetery Johan actually ended up in (between Mount Emblem, Eden Memorial Park or Elm Lawn) I have added him to Mount Emblem as it seems the most likely option. There will most likely not be a headstone for him at any of these cemeteries, however, since he was a listed as an "unknown adult."
