Mr. James Edward Hickox, 85 of Kingsland passed away at Hospice of the Golden Isle early on the evening of Monday, September 14th, 2009, surrounded by his beloved family.

Mr. Hickox was a Ware County, Georgia native. He was born in Waycross on October 22th, 1923 and is the son of the late James Madison and Ellar Mae Martin Hickox.

Mr. Hickox was educated in Ware County and later came to work for Gilman Paper Company, retiring with 38 years of service.

He was married to his wife Rosetta Aldridge Hickox December 3, 1948 and they have been inseparable for almost 61 years.

Mr. Hickox was a long time fixture at the county playgrounds and ball fields where he was affectionately known as "Hoppy". He was an avid hunter and fisherman and had an affinity for vegetable gardening. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kingsland. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Mr. Hickox is survived by his loving wife, Rosetta Aldridge Hickox, of Kingsland; his sons, Dennis (Sherri) Hickox, of Kingsland, and Joel (Kathy) Hickox of Jacksonville, Fl.; his grandchildren, Brooke and Tucker Hickox, and Lauren and Rob Barker; and his great- grand child, Carter Bady.

Besides his parents, Mr. Hickox was preceded in death by his daughters, Joyce Hickox and Delores Hickox.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 16th, 2009 at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 17th , 2009 in the old sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Kingsland.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Hickox, Virgil Hickox, Danny Hickox, Harrel Smith, Harry Callahan, Johnny Hickox, and Bill Turner. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. in High Bluff Cemetery near Waycross, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Golden Isle, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, Georgia 31525.
