MAN, 23, KILLED WHEN TRUCK SLAMS RIG
A 23-year-old Eugene man was killed early Wednesday when his pickup truck slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer parked along Highway 99N.
Police identified the victim as Shane Allen Hughes, whose family lives in the Junction City area. His Ford Ranger wedged under the rear of the tractor-trailer, which was parked on the west side of Highway 99N at Prairie Road, according to Eugene police.
The accident was reported at 12:48 a.m. Paramedics arrived six minutes later. Hughes was dead at the scene.

The funeral will be held Nov. 25 for Shane Allen Hughes of Eugene, who died Nov. 20 in a traffic accident. He was 23.
Hughes was born Jan. 26, 1974, in Eugene to Ken and Joy Hughes. He lived in Junction City until 1996, when he moved to Eugene. He graduated from Junction City High School and worked as a plasterer at R. H. Development Co. He enjoyed fishing, music and playing pool.
Survivors include his parents, Barry and Joyce Allen of Junction City; two brothers, Cody Hughes of Triangle Lake and Barry Allen of Junction City; two sisters, Terry Holmes of Dexter and Charlotte Buell of Redmond; his grandmother, Peggy Brewer of Junction City, and his great-grandmother, Lucille Raduechel of Junction City.
Visitation will be 10 a.ml. to 5 p.m. Monday at Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home in Junction City. Tuesday's funeral will be at 2 p.m. at Rest Lawn Memorial Park in Junction City. Memorial contributions may be made to Kidsports.
