Rosie Baker

Rosie Helen Baker, the daughter of John and Anna (Prochaska) Lukas, was born August 9, 1912, at Blue Hill, Nebraska. She died unexpectedly at her home in Red
Cloud, Nebraska, on April 17, 1996, at the age of 83 years, 8 months, and 8 days.

Rosie moved with her family from Blue Hill to Colorado in 1918. In 1925, they returned to Webster County, where she attended school at Plum Valley and at the Eckley Consolidated School, before transferring to Blue Hill High School, where she graduated in 1931.

On August 9, 1933, she was united in marriage with Harold William Baker at Smith Center, Kansas. They made their home on a farm south of Pauline, Nebraska, until 1949, when they moved into Pauline. In 1951, they moved to a farm south of Blue Hill and in 1955, purchased a farm northwest of Red Cloud.

Harold died on February 21, 1965, and that same year Rosie moved into Red Cloud to make her home. She was employed for a number of years by Norman Pierce at Norm's Trading Post.

Rosie was preceded in death by her parents; two infant daughters;four sisters, Nettie Pruess, Anna Cech, Albina Schmidt and Emilie Bennett; and three brothers, Frank, Adolph and Stein Lukas.

Left to cherish her memory are two brothers, John Lukas of Red Cloud and Joseph Lukas of Portland, Oregon; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held April 20 at the Simonson-Williams Chapel in Red Cloud with the Rev. Dennis R. Linton-Hendrick officiating. Barbara Sprague was organist and Charles Lukas sang "Amazing Grace," "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old, Rugged Cross."

Casket bearers were Garry Reiman, Steve Hesman, Brad Worman, William Baker, Terry Mau, Ardene Muhleisen, Harold Alber, and Jim Lukas. Interment was in the Oak Creek Cemetery in Webster County, Nebraska.
