Thelma Dyer lived in Upland from 1958 until her death. she focused her life on her church, friends and family. This included her three children, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her delight was to stay in touch by letter or visit with relatives, friends and neighbors, past and present.
She began her life on farms in Missouri, graduated from Amity High School and Missouri State University, Warrensburg and for three years, became the teacher of a rural one-room schoolhouse for children in grades 1-8. She worked and paid for her own college education. Thelma made friends everywhere she went and still corresponded with most of them.
She is survived by her son, Glenn Willard Dyer and his wife Leslie of Oceanside, CA; her daughter, Eleanor Dyer Pithart and her husband Ronald Of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Eileen Dyer Wood, Stuart Fred Dyer, Stephanie Odile Pithart, Ryan Douglas Pithart, Amy Adams, andy Loveland, Christian Pederson and seven great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister, Evelyn M. Vaughn of Grand Junction, CO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jonathan Willard Dyer, son, 2nd LT. Frederick Lee Dyer, USMC - killed in Vietman, parents, Samuel and Ruby Inez Matter and brother, Truman Glen Matter.
Visitation will be Friday, April 21, 2006 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Stone Funeral Home, Upland.
Services will be Saturday April 22, 2006 at 10 a.m. at The First United Methodist Church, Upland. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Covina
