From "Portrait and Biographical Album of Oakland County, Michigan" [Chapman Bros., Chicago, 1891], p. 468, biography of his son, William E. Carpenter:

"The late B. K. Carpenter, one of the pioneers of this county, was born in the State of New York in 1810 and reared on a farm with limited educational advantages. At the age of twenty-five, in the vigor of a stalwart manhood, he came to Michigan in 1835 and located in Orion Township, this county. His first purchase comprised eighty acres of land, which he improved and made his home for twelve years. Two years later, after his arrival, in 1837, he bought one hundred and twenty acres in Waterford Township, which he partially improved while still residing in Orion Township. In 1847 he removed to the farm on section 20, and there passed the remainder of his life, dying in 1889 at the age of seventy-nine years."
