∼Samuel was born in Dauphin, Mahantango Township, Northumberland, PA. During 1842, Samuel moved his family 500 miles in a covered wagon from PA to IN. In 1849, he pre-empted 127.36 acres of land in Section 18, T26N, R5E, just SE of Oakley, Miami, IN. This land had been taken during the "re-location" to Missouri of the Miami Indians. When the Indians were later allowed to return, they allowed Samuel to keep his residence. Samuel was a Cooper and a Farmer who fathered twelve children.
