Of Bear passed away unexpectedly on Saturday September 12, 2009 at the age of 71.
Russell was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Russell and Avis Cool and has made Bear his home for the past 25 years. Russell served his country proudly as a member of the US Marine Corps for 2 years and the US Navy for 11 years. He was a member of Pencader Presbyterian Church. Russell was a millwright in Research and Development for DuPont Company for 34 years retiring in 1999 and a member of the DuPont Fish and Game Club. He was a very accomplished bass musician playing in many different country and western bands in the area. He also was a master crabber. His favorite pastime was boating and wood crafting; however, Russell's heart belonged to his family.
Russell will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 40 years Ann F. Cool; children Andrew M. Cool of Newark, DE, Patricia Cool of Bear, DE, Gregory D. Thacker of Newark, DE, Deborah T. Winters of Elkton, MD, and brother Stephen Cool of California. He was the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Russell is also survived by his beloved caregiver and his loving pet dog, "Jake".
Family and friends are invited to Russell's viewing and visitation with his family on Friday September 18 from 12 noon to 1 pm at BEESON FUNERAL HOME OF NEWARK, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Fox Run, (302) 453-1900. His funeral service will be at 1 pm with interment following at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers a memorial donation is requested to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Two Mill Road, Suite 106, Wilmington, DE 19806 or the American Heart Association, 1501 Casho Mill Road, #1, Newark, DE 19711.
