Julia Elizabeth (Neuvert) Nuss, 1848-1935

Mrs. John Frederick Nuss, our mother, was born February 22nd, 1848 in East Russia, and passed on to her heavenly home on Sunday morning May 26th, 1935 in the Old People's Home at Wellington, Kansas. She brought her age to 87 years, 3 months, and 4 days. In 1865 she was united in marriage to Mr. John Frederick Nuss. This union was blessed with 12 children of whom the father, four daughters, and one son preceded her in death. In 1887 they immigrated to American and made their home on a farm north of Canada, Kansas. In 1888 our sister was converted and baptized, uniting with the Strassburg Mennonite Brethren Church. Later they moved to Tampa and due to the distance she was unable to attend her own church and they joined the German Baptist Church. Mother Nuss was a true and sincere Christian, who loved the Word of God, the fellowship of Gods children. With this faith in her heart, and hope in the future she passed on to her Savior. About three years ago, she suffered a stroke, which left her helpless. The last year of she was cared for in the Old People's home in Wellington where she passed away. She leaves to mourn her departure: five sons, two daughters, besides 46 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren, with many relatives and friends. We feel she is worthy of the rest and comfort ourselves with the thought that we shall meet again. Rev. Nickel, from the M.B. Church in Hillsboro and Rev. L. Hoeffner of Durham Baptist Church spoke words of comfort and consolation. As printed in the "HILLSBORO STAR", June, 1935, Hillsboro, Kansas.
