Elizabeth W. Cundiff, 81 of Live Oak, Florida passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2008, in Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City, FL from complications following a stroke. The Fairfax County, Virginia native moved to Live Oak, FL in 1947 from Marianna, FL. Known to her family and friends as "Mama C" met the love of her life, Houston Cundiff in Washington, DC. They were married within six months and remained in wedded bliss for over 62 years. She was named the best employee the Suwannee High School system had to offer and represented the district in state competition. In 1964 Cundiff became a district employee. For the first five years Cundiff was a secretary then she became bookkeeper, a position she held for 25 years. She served the community at large with diligence, dedication, commitment and impacted the lives of many people, dealing with the needs of 45 clubs and a busy athletic department. Mama "C" accepted additional responsibilities not to benefit her, but to serve the faculty and students in order to make the school a little better. She was a lifetime honorary member of the Suwannee High School F.F.A. and was inducted into the Suwannee High School Sports Hall of Fame in 1995, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Live Oak and later attended Rosemary Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Houston H. Cundiff, Live Oak, FL; three daughters, Edith Cundiff, Live Oak, FL; Linda Kirby, Live Oak, FL; Mary Ellen (Bud) Stratton, Live Oak, FL; three grandchildren, Jared (Kristen) Kirby; Jamie Geiger and T.J. (Lacey) Geiger ; three great grandchildren, Easton Kirby, Erin Kirby, Bryce Geiger all of Live Oak, FL. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 10:00 am in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Louis Berry and Rick Roberts officiating. Interment followrf in the Live Oak Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Haven Hospice, 6037 Hwy 90 West, Lake City, FL 32055.
