Eugene was born to Charles Emmett Robbins and Mable Sophie Carlson, one of 9 children for Charles (8 for Mable). Eugene enlisted in the Army at 18 where he was part of the Army band as well as becoming a drill instructor.

Eugene met his wife Dorothy Prather at college when he was dating her best friend, Donelle. Luckily, they all realized that Gene should be with his Dorothy - they married soon after on April 3, 1949 in Bellingham, WA and went on to have 6 children together. They first lived in Olympia, WA before moving to Eugene, OR where Eugene was a music teacher, marching band instructor and played in a jazz band. Gene was an avid musician who could play almost every instrument but his passion was the trombone, bass and piano. He passed on his love of music to all 6 of his children and was often teased about producing his own string section.
Eugene and Dorothy had over 50 wonderful years of marriage together before Gene passed away. After they both retired from teaching, they fulfilled a life-long dream to travel the U.S.A. In their airstream trailer for a year.
Gene was survived by his wife Dorothy, sons - Charles (Kathy), Richard & Daniel (Sharon) as well as 3 daughters - Donelle Robbins (Dutch), Debbie (Fred) Miller, & Diane (Jim) Lee. He also had 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren at the time of his passing.
