SAMUEL CHICHESTER. Samuel Chichester, a well-known resident and pioneer died at his home in this village Tuesday evening June 6, 1905, aged 82 years. He had been quite feeble for several years but was able to be around and yet out on the street occasionally until about two weeks ago when he had a severe stroke of paralysis and since then he has been entirely helpless, gradually failing until the end. Mr. Chichester was born in New Jersey, Feb. 21, 1823 and with others of the family came to Michigan in 1842 at the age of 19 and has ever since resided in this vicinity. He was twice married. His first wife, a sister of the late Edwin Vosburg died many years ago. and he was married to his present wife in 1874. Besides his wife he leaves five sons: William and Milford of Augusta; Charles and Frank now living near Seattle, Washington and Elmer of Alberta, Canada; also two daughters: Mrs. Myrtie Halsted of Penfield, Mich., and Nora Beckwith of Augusta. One sister also survives him, Mrs. Jane Beckwith of this village. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at two o’clock. Mrs. Newton of Kalamazoo a Spiritualist speaker of which faith he had long been a believer, conducted the service. Augusta Beacon June 9, 1905 page 1
