SNYDER - Funeral for Lloyd C. "Duke" Snyder, 79, Lawton, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist West with the Rev. Jamie Powell, pastor, officiating.
Mr. Snyder died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, in Lawton.
Burial with military honors will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
He was born April 6, 1930, in Navina, to John C. Snyder and Ella May Lanning Snyder. He grew up and attended schools in Jones through the 9th grade. He graduated from Hallet High School in 1949. He later attended and graduated from Cameron University. He joined the Army in March 1952 and served in Greenland, Korea and Vietnam. He retired on July 31, 1975, at Fort Sill. Awards and citations he received include Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, National Defense Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal-Korea, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Overseas Service Bars, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Sharp Shooter Qualification Badge Rifle. He married Madonna Frankie Hackworth on Jan. 25, 1955, at Camp Kelmer, N.J. Following his retirement from the Army, he worked in civil service at Fort Sill. He scheduled many of the sporting events that took place at Fort Sill. He was a member of First Baptist West.
Survivors include a daughter, Pamela K. Carter, Lawton; four grandchildren: Jessica Carter and Kristin Carter, both of Indiahoma; and Caroll Rich and John Rich, both of Elgin; two great-grandchildren: Gabriel and Tristan Locklear, both of Indiahoma; a sister-in-law, Mary Merkle, Midwest City; two sons-in-law: Bobby B. Carter, Indiahoma; and Jerry Rich and his wife Penny, Elgin; and a nephew and nieces: David Parks, Muskogee; Barbara Beasley, Hugo; Sharon Mocha, Muskogee; and Marilyn Matthews, Edmond.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Arthur, Harold, and Clifford Snyder; two sisters: Chloe Clifton and Colene Park; his wife; and a daughter, Sandra Rich.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 1720 Cache Road, Lawton 73507.
