Rudolph Dixon Michael, 89, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, January 5, 1993, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Berwick, Penn. to the late William Ellis and Laura McHenry Michael on January 14, 1904.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Carlton Michael, and a sister, Katherine Michael Morris.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Spiggle Michael Morris; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anne M. and Lynn Wood, Corinth, Miss., and Jean M. and J. Malcolm Shick, Orono, Maine; one niece and husband, Laura Morris and J. Stephen Burrows, Blacksburg; two grandsons and one granddaughter; two great-nephews; three great-great-nieces; and two great-great-nephews.

He was a 1926 graduate of V.P.I. and 1937 graduate of Kansas State University. He retired in 1965 from V.P.I. as Agricultural Information Editor. Mr. Michael's civic activities included coordinator of Civil Defense in 1945. He served on Town Council for 10 years. Recently served as chairman of V.P.I. - Blacksburg Sanitation Authority. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi honor society and editor of the JOURNAL for 20 years. Other community organizations include ODK, Sigma Delta Chi, 4-H, Y.M.C.A., and others. He was also a member of Blacksburg Baptist Church and former deacon.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, January 8, at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ray Allen officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made to Blacksburg Rescue Squad, 200 Progress St., N.E., Blacksburg, Va. or the Blacksburg Baptist Church, 550 North Main St., Blacksburg, Va. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until service time at McCoy Funeral Home.
