H. Macauley McEver, (Mac), 89, of Blacksburg, died Sunday, January 21, 1996 at Richfield Nursing Home. Born in Birmingham, Alabama on September 14, 1906, he was the son of the late James F. and Sarah Tucker McEver.

He was a 1929 graduate of Virginia Tech with a BS in Business Administration. He was President of his class, and played football, basketball and baseball. After graduation, Mr. McEver coached three sports at Virginia Tech and later served as Executive Director of the Virginia Tech Student Aid Association until his retirement in 1979. He organized and developed the Student Aid Association, currently the Athletic Fund, to support scholarships for student athletes. He initiated the endowed Scholarship Program for student athletes and founded the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame, serving as its chairman until his death. He was inducted into the State of Virginia Sports Hall of Fame, the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame, received the Virginia Tech Alumni Distinguished Service Award in 1992, a member of the Virginia Tech All Century Team, served on the "Old Guard" Board of Directors and was an honorary member of ODK. He was a former member of the Rotary Club, served as foreman of the Grand Jury in Montgomery County for a number of years, a member of Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, where he served as Deacon, Elder and Superintendent of the Sunday School.

Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Stover McEver; daughter and son-in-law, Frances M. H. and George Russell, Blacksburg; son and daughter-in-law, William Stover and Vicki McEver, Warrenton; son, H. M. (Buddy) McEver, Jr., Blacksburg; sister, Sarabel Alley, Cleveland, Ohio; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Hutcheson Domico, Thomas B. Hutcheson III, Joel C. Hutcheson and Mark A. McEver; three great-grandchildren, Patrick H. Domico, Adam T. Domico and Thomas B. Hutcheson IV.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 24, 1996, at 11 a.m. in the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. D. Cameron Murchison Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 144, Blacksburg, Va. 24063, or the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund, P. O. Box 10307, Blacksburg, Va. Friends may call at McCoy Funeral Home Tuesday after 12 noon, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
